Mikuláš Minář
At the age of 24, he had no interest in politics. Just two years later, he stood on stage before hundreds of thousands of people as the founder and leader of Million Moments for Democracy (Milion chvilek pro demokracii), the Czech Republic's largest pro-democracy civic movement, which he established in 2017.
Now 33, Mikuláš Minář has gained international recognition for mobilizing some of the largest pro-democracy protests in the country's post-communist history in 2019 and 2026, bringing over 250,000 people to Prague's Letná Park to peacefully demand government accountability, independence of media and judiciary, and respect for democratic checks and balances.
Having studied philosophy and theology, Minář is also an executive coach and a scholar of the humanities. He returned to lead the movement in late 2025 amid a changing political landscape.
Under his leadership, Million Moments now focuses on defending the rule of law, expanding decentralized civic networks, holding democratic political parties to higher standards, and strengthening civic and psychological resilience to protect democratic institutions against gradual erosion in the Czech Republic.
