Julia Klöckner
Julia Klöckner has been President of the 21st German Bundestag since March 2025. In the 2025 federal elections, she was once again elected to represent Bad Kreuznach and Birkenfeld in the Bundestag. Klöckner’s political career spans more than twenty years: she was elected to the Bundestag in 2002 and, in 2009, was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. From 2011 to 2018, she chaired the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group in the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament and was also chairwoman of the CDU’s Rhineland-Palatinate branch until 2022. Additionally, she served as deputy federal chairwoman of the CDU from 2012 to January 2022. In 2018, she became the Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture. From 2021 to 2025, she was the CDU/CSU parliamentary group’s spokeswoman on economic policy, and from 2022 to 2025, she served as the CDU’s federal treasurer. Before her political career, Klöckner studied political science, Catholic theology and education at the University of Mainz. She then worked as a journalist, including as an editor at Meininger Verlag and as the founding editor-in-chief of Sommelier magazine. She is also actively involved in numerous associations and foundations.
