Hoda Khamosh
Hoda Khamosh is a journalist, poet, writer, and human rights activist based in Norway.
She is the Founder and President of Women’s Justice Movement (WJM), a women-led civil society organisation working to protect women’s rights, promote education, document human rights violations, and support women and girls.
Through her journalism, poetry, writing, and activism, Hoda has challenged restrictions on women’s freedom and spoken out against gender-based discrimination and violence. Following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, she participated in women’s protests and continued to advocate for the rights of Afghanistan women and girls despite serious personal risks.
In January 2022, she participated in the Oslo talks with Taliban representatives, where she publicly called for the release of detained women’s rights activists. Her advocacy brought international attention to the situation of Afghanistan women.
Hoda was named among BBC’s 100 Women in 2021 and TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in 2022. She is also a poet and writer whose work explores themes of freedom, identity, love, and social restrictions.
Through WJM and her international advocacy, she continues to work for women’s rights, accountability, education, and justice for Afghan women and girls, including supporting initiatives that document human rights violations and help women and girls access education.
