
Prof. Dr. Michael Hüther
Prof. Dr. Michael Hüther, Director and Member of the Executive Board at the German Economic Institute, was born on April 24, 1962, in Düsseldorf. From 1982 to 1987, he studied economics as well as medieval and mo-dern history at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. After completing his doctoral studies, he became a research associate in 1991 and was appointed Secretary General of the German Council of Economic Experts in 1995. In 1999, he joined DekaBank as Chief Economist and was appointed Head of the Economics and Communications Division in 2001. Since August 2001, he has been an honorary professor at the EBS Business School in Oestrich-Winkel. In April 2019, he was appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TÜV Rheinland AG. He is also First Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SRH Holding, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Atlantik-Brücke, a member of the Administrative Board of TÜV Rheinland Berlin Brandenburg Pfalz e.V., and a member of the Exe-cutive Committee of the Research Institute for Rationalization at RWTH Aachen University. In addition, he is a member of the Research Council at Justus Liebig University Giessen, a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (DIE), a member of the Senate of the German National Foun-dation, and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Herbert Giersch Foundation. In the academic year 2016/17, as well as in the fall of 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, he was Gerda Henkel Adjunct Professor in the Department of German Studies at Stanford University, CA, USA.
